Dissertation Research Study

(the fine print)

Robyn L. Flores is a doctoral candidate at the University of the Cumberlands, that has created a study to explore the perception of affirming counseling practices through the lens of neurodivergent and erotically marginalized cisgender females. Robyn hopes to have the opportunity to explore ethical and affirming counseling practices that aim to validate this intersection of identities based on their lived experiences.

You qualify as a potential participant if:

  1. You are an individual who identifies as cisgender female and neurodivergent.

  2. You identify as erotically marginalized (specifically kink-oriented practices and/or expression).

  3. You are at least 25 years of age or older.

  4. You have the ability to speak and read English clearly (sixth grade reading level or higher).

  5. You have a diagnosis or meet criteria for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

  6. Your assessment was conducted in a timeframe of no less than two years prior to participation in this study.

  7. You are willing to discuss neurodivergence, diagnoses, sexual expression, sexual practices, and experiences in counseling.

  8. You have previously engaged, within the past year, or you are currently engaging, in counseling with a licensed professional counselor (LPC, or various state-specific iterations of the license name).

  9. You have attended at least three counseling sessions, lasting 50 minutes or longer for each session.

Hello...

Little tidbits of unmasked-ness are displayed in black & white.

I am glad you are here!

I am a researcher with a specialized (and often monotropic) focus on intersectional identities of women, neurodivergence, and erotic marginalization.  I also find myself diving into scholarly literature about erotic countertransference, word-power, and, most recently, the concept of disappointment.

I'm working toward earning a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. In the meantime, I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed professional counselor (LPC), approved clinical supervisor (ACS), and AAMFT supervisor candidate. She supervises LMFT-Associates in Texas, LPC/MFT-Candidates in Colorado, and CPC/MFT-Interns in Nevada. I get to help people heal, evolve, and prosper.

I am living the dream of being a professor and teaching assistant. I get to teach courses such as masters-level human sexuality, supervision and consultation, and psychopharmacology, and assists with doctoral-level ethics/legal and neuroanatomy. Yes, I am that steampunk professor stereotype.

For folks who are interested in philosophical stances and conceptual frameworks, I naturally perceive the world through a Foucauldian social constructivist perspective, especially in the realms of: consent in power dynamics, the archaeology of knowledge, and the sway of semantics. I appreciate the epistemic stance of Monique Botha & Robert Chapman and the assertive humility of researcher, Thomas Teo

I also love Aurelius's stoicism, Nietzsche's dark and twisty provocation of wonder, and the transformative words of a true goddess, Maya Angelou.

Finally, I really enjoy anything that serves as a rocking chair for the brain. Please enjoy the video provided for a transitory brain break...
